An 18-year-old student of the Advanced Technical College at Akim Oda, who allegedly brutally assaulted Martain Amoaning, also a student, for roughly tackling him during a friendly football match, has been remanded in police custody by the Akim Oda Magistrate Court..
The accused pleaded guilty to assault, contrary to section 84 of Act 29/60, but said he had explanation to offer.He would return to the court on May 7.
Police Inspector William Kwaku Appiah told the court, presided over by Mr. Albert Osusu Annor, that the complainant is a student of the Presbyterian Junior High School at Akim Oda and that on March 14, this year in the morning, there was a friendly encounter at the Attafuah School Field.
Inspector Appiah said in the course of the match, Mensah roughly tackled Amoaning, adding, the match degenerated into a riot and that Mensah threatened to deal ruthlessly with Amoaning anytime their paths crossed.
He said on March 16 while the complainant was on his way to school, Presby JHS, the accused met him and allegedly severely beat him up until Amoaning became unconscious. Mensah then abandoned him and ran away.
According to Inspector Appiah, witnesses in the case rushed Amoaning to the Akim Oda Government Hospital where he was admitted for five days.The matter was reported to the police who arrested Mensah.Source: GNA
