The Greater Accra Regional Police Commander DCOP Opare Addo has called on the Judiciary to take a second look at the practice of granting bail to suspected armed robbers.
The phenomenon of granting bail to suspected armed robbers he said is frustrating the work of the police.
Speaking to Joy News DCOP Opare said while not seeking to malign the courts, robbery suspected often granted bail relapse into the crime for which they were arrested.
He said sections of the Criminal Code which bars armed robbery suspected arrested with offensive weapons from being granted bail were not being adhered to.
He said guy shot dead by the police a shoot out was later found to have been in prison custody and was granted bail.
“If the courts will take cognisance of the law that says suspected armed robbers should not be granted bail, it will do us a lot of good”, he said.
