General Overseer of Action Chapel International Church, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, has urged parents to strongly oppose any form of sexual education which runs contrary to their religious beliefs and culture.
“When it comes to matters like sex education and upbringing of children…, parents must take responsibility when it comes to upbringing. We shouldn’t leave it to the world or the school to teach our kids sex education. We need to teach them based on the rules of our kingdom,” the Archbishop said.
The Christian leader spoke on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Friday, on the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) programme supposedly mapped out by the Ministry of Education which has triggered public outcry.
CSE has been described as a subtle conditioning of pupils to explore lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) lifestyles.
However, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has stated categorically that it has not approved the document and has denied plans to introduce any education that is disapproved by Ghanaian laws and cultural norms.
Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams said there are two kingdoms as far as Christians are concerned; the worldly and God’s.
“We shouldn’t allow the world to impose their method or their principles of sex education on us. We are not going to conform to the standards of this world and what they call sex education if it violates our beliefs,” Duncan-Williams charged.
He expressed worry that “little by little” worldly ways in entering the Christian home. One of these ways is disrespect towards parents.
The man seen as the founder of Ghana’s charismatic movement said children these days talk back to their parents in ways that are culturally unacceptable.
“I am not saying that when parents are wrong they should not be called to order but let us do it with that understanding of respect” he advised.
