Mr Kwesi Ahwoi, Minister for the Interior, has imposed a curfew on Alavanyo and Nkonya township, with effect from Friday March 22, 2013.
A release signed by the minister said the curfew period is from 6.00pm to 6.00am.
It said this followed the continuous communal violence between the Alavanyos and Nkonyas in the Volta Region.
"The decision is on the advise of the Volta Regional Security Council and is by Executive Instrument," the release said.
It said it was the wish of government that chiefs, opinion leaders, youth and people of the area, channeled their energies into ensuring the return of peace.
Meanwhile, there is also a ban on all persons in the two towns and its surrounding areas from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapon, the release said.
It said any person found with arms or ammunition would be arrested and prosecuted.
