Mr Daniel Kwaku Botwe, an aspiring flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Friday called on delegates to the December Congress, to ensure that the person elected would be above reproach, honest and could retain confidence of Ghanaians in the party.
He said there was the need to elect an aspirant who was marketable, trustworthy, faithful and capable of implementing the party's manifesto, as well as ensuring that state institutions performed effectively and efficiently to improve the socio-economic standards of Ghanaians.
"The best way to put our opponents to sleep is to convince Ghanaians of the NPP's capabilities," he added.
Mr Botwe, a former General-Secretary of the party and former Minister of Information and National Orientation, made the call at an interaction with newsmen in Cape Coast as part of his campaign tour of the Central Region.
He pointed out that "he is an action and result-oriented person" and would prove equal to the task as the person with the requisite leadership qualities to be elected the party's flagbearer.
"I have taken 'risks' and made ample 'sacrifices' for the party over the years in various capacities and my campaign is targeted at winning the trust of potential delegates to the December congress," he added.
Mr Botwe denied speculations that some prominent chiefs had approached him to step down from the race adding, "no one has approached me".
He pointed out that the race for the flagbearership was not about age or ethnicity but about the aspirant's ability not only to lead the party, but also to implement its manifesto to ensure the fulfilment of the people's aspirations.
Mr Botwe said he was not aware that President John Agyekum Kufuor was supporting any particular aspirant and denied that some delegates could be manipulated to vote in a particular manner and gave the assurance that the party would institute measures to forestall such manipulation.
