Mr. Kwabena Appiah-Awuah, Nkoranza District Chief Executive, has presented 2.4 million to settle the medical bills of Miss Akua Ayishetu, a nursing mother abandoned by the husband at Saint Theresa’s Hospital at Nkoranza.
Miss Ayishetu, 23, a resident of Sessiman at Nkoranza gave birth to a baby boy but the husband, Kwasi Baah, could not afford to pay her medical bills and fled the town.
The donation followed an appeal Ayishetu made to public-spirited individuals, churches and philanthropists to come to her aid in view of the hardships she was going through.
Miss Ayishetu thanked the DCE and said that she had lost both parents and could not afford to register with the district mutual health insurance scheme.
She said she already had two children with another man who had also divorced her and life had become unbearable for her.
Mr. Appiah-Awuah said since the children were the nation’s assets, there was the need to support them in their upbringing and development.
