Tamale Central MP, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed has accused the Minister for Defense, Dominic Aduna Bingab Nitiwul of deploying military men amid a chaotic scene during the wee hours of Wednesday.
Speaking to JoyNews after the House suspended sitting ahead of the presidential inauguration, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed stated emphatically that Dominic Nitiwul made a call inviting the military officers into the Chamber of Parliament.
“I know that for a fact and I told him when he was making the call, I told him that was not necessary, I told him it will be a blur on the integrity of this House.”
His comment comes after security personnel stormed Parliament following commotions during the inauguration of the 8th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
The military and police officers who were heavily armed officers clad in full regalia marched to the Floor of Parliament to restore calm after some MPs-elect from the NDC side disrupted the electoral process of a new Speaker for the House.
Murtala Mohammed argued that the presence of military and police personnel into Parliament was dangerous and unacceptable.
He said the unprecedented behaviour of the military in the history of Ghana’s democratic regime, calls for an investigation.
He said the MPs need to understand the motive behind the invitation of the security personals.
“I will urge that there should be a proper investigation into the matter regarding who invited the military officers into Parliament and the reasons behind that...I don’t think it is acceptable too.”
