A middle-aged mother of six in the Ashanti Region has died after a woman believed to be mentally ill attacked her with an axe.
The husband of the deceased woman who also suffered severe injury during the assault is currently on admission at the Mankranso Government Hospital in the Ahafo Ano South District.
Afua Dufie died instantly on Tuesday at about 5 p.m. when the suspected mental patient inflicted multiple injuries on her at Mpasaso-Adiembra, also in the Ahafo Ano South District.
Police say the deranged woman had earlier attempted to attack her own mother before turning to Dufie and her husband.
Afua Dufie was escorting her sick husband to the hospital when the calamity befell her.
District Police Commander, DSP Augustine Mensah told Nhyira News that the
incident left the deceased with a severely disfigured, her head hacked several times with the axe.
Meanwhile, police have arrested and detained the woman pending further
investigations.
The body of Afua Dufie has been deposited at the Toase Government Hospital awaiting autopsy.
