The Bishop of the Goaso Roman Catholic Diocese in the Ahafo Region, Most Rev Peter Atuahene has called on residents to avoid any actions that could lead to violence during the upcoming December elections.
Bishop Atuahene urged the community to ensure that this year’s elections are free from violence.
Speaking at the 50th-anniversary celebration of the Kenyasi parish, he addressed the youth, who he believes are more susceptible to influence, and urged them to avoid actions that could provoke conflict.
“I am pleading with residents to avoid any activities that could result in violence and bloodshed. We must live in peace so we can vote successfully and continue to enjoy a peaceful life in our country. I plead with everyone to refrain from violence to ensure peace prevails.”
Meanwhile the Ahafo Regional Minister George Boakye also emphasised the importance of maintaining peace.
He cautioned against supporting politicians who preach violence in their campaigns.
According to the minister, Ahafo cannot afford to lose the peace it currently enjoys and must be protected.
“If politicians are promoting messages that do not foster peace, have the courage to speak out. Remember, if something goes wrong, it will not impact most of them directly. I urge everyone to pray for God’s protection, and also pray that the elections will be peaceful and successful.”
