Diageo, the world’s leading premium drinks business and parent company of Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited (GGBL) has launched its annual Diageo Africa Business Reporting Awards (DABRA) for 2013. This year marks the ten-year anniversary of the Awards, which were initiated by Diageo to recognize journalists and editors who provide high quality coverage of the business environment in Africa. Following commissioned research, Diageo launched the Awards in order to raise awareness of the need for reliable, objective and comprehensive reporting on African business. Such reporting plays and important part in increasing investment flows to the continent by improving investors’ perceptions and challenging negative stereotypes. Briefing the media during a press conference at the International Press Centre, Accra on Tuesday, 19th February, 2013, the new Corporate Relations Director of GGBL, Preba Arkaah Greenstreet said, “As the market leader in each of the five drinks categories in which we compete. GGBL is keenly aware of the importance informed, accurate and balanced reporting makes in the business world." Two journalists from Ghana have won the prestigious awards so far; Felix Klutse’s story on China Takes Africa by Storm was adjudged the Best Business News story category in 2010 and Anas Aremeyaw Anas' Ghana’s Gold, won the Best Agribusiness/Environment Feature story in 2012.
