In an industry that has the patriarchal dominance and usually poses challenge to women, it is always commendable when a lady brave all odds to excel in her field.
She started with radio, added TV recently and is already flying.
Most people like her for the finesse with which he presents the entertainment news on Hitz 103.9FM. To many, she sounds natural, relaxed and fun to listen to when casting news.
She has gradually won the hearts of a lot of radio lovers. Her name is Doreen Avio but a lot of her friends and family call her Akeebeh which is her native name.
Doreen's parents are both from the Upper East Region, Navrongo precisely. She joined the Multimedia Group Limited in 2009 at Hitz FM. There, she worked as a marketer but realized she couldn't do much of it after three (3) months.
She then had the opportunity to move the Programmes Department where she worked as a production assistant with the likes of Amanda Jissih who, according to her, "has been so supportive from day one.

“She introduced me to a lot of media guys like Eugene, Ameyaw Debrah, Ebenezer Anangfio, Kofi Duah and others”, she told Flex Newspaper.
Doreen was humble and ready to learn from her masters like Sadiq Abdullai, Afi Dzakpasu, Reindolf Ofosu and Ruddy Kwakye who was the Programmes Director then.
She recounted that it was Ruddy Kwakye who gave her the opportunity to go on air after she made her intentions known to him that she wanted to start reading the news. Amanda Jissih coached her most of the time.
"She eventually became like a sister to me. She would go everywhere with me for events. One would never see me without seeing Amanda. Mabel Simpson of Msimps was with us too. It was a family," the affable presenter disclosed.
Doreen ‘Akeebeh' Avio had her primary and Junior Secondary School education at Christ Mission School at Santa Maria, then went to Nungua Senior Secondary School. After her secondary education she went to Alliance Francaise and studied French for about two years.
To broaden her horizon in her field of work, she then enrolled at the Ghana Institute of Journalism for a short course to study Public Relations.
She recently completed African University College of Communication (AUCC) for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Strategic Communication.
Following the exit of Amanda Jissih and Afi Dzakpasu, Doreen has held the fort as the host of the Hitz Entertainment news, writes for the Entertainment page on Myjoyonline.com, and is currently the host of Let's Talk Entertainment on the Joy News channel on Multi TV which airs from Monday to Friday at 4: 45pm.
Being her first time of doing television presentation, she’s been very impressive. Her confidence and professionalism cannot be overlooked.
If anyone thought she only thaws out on radio, they need to watch her to reorient their thought.
Obviously, the Multimedia Group Limited has discovered another talented TV presenter for their Joy News Channel and from all indications; Doreen isn't resting on her oars any time soon.
