Dr Seth Koranteng, former Medical Director of Police Hospital in Accra, has been elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary aspirant for Mpraeso Constituency at a delegate’s conference at Atibie.
All the 212 delegates voted by popular acclamation for Dr Koranteng at the election supervised by Mr Kwame Appiah Agyemang, Kwahu South District Electoral Officer.
Dr Koranteng expressed appreciation to the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and advised activists and supporters of the Party to give him the needed support and co-operation and intensify their campaign to win the seat.
Mr Kwamena Ahwoi, a Leading member of the Party, criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government for selling lands and property belonging to the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Armed Forces and other security agencies.
He said with the sale of these lands it would be difficult to provide the needed infrastructure for the increasing security personnel.
Mr Ahwoi alleged that the Veterans Association of Ghana (VAG) Village, a track of land allocated to retired soldiers to be developed into residential accommodation for them had been sold.
He said Dr Koranteng and former President Jerry John Rawlings went to China to negotiate for assistance for the construction of the National Theatre in Accra and a local rice cultivation project at Nobewam in the Ashanti Region.
Mr Ahwoi urged supporters of the Party to intensify their campaign for Dr Koranteng to win the parliamentary seat to enhance the constituency’s development.
Mr Bismarck Tawiah Boateng, Eastern Regional Organizer of NDC, urged the Electoral Commission to ensure that photographs of all eligible voters who registered during the limited voters’ registration exercise were taken to enable them receive their identification cards to exercise their franchise during Election 2008.
Mrs Evelyn Korang, Eastern Regional Women’s Organizer of NDC, said Ghanaians were calling on the NDC to rescue them from the economic hardship under the NPP Government and urged the women to intensify their campaign for the party to win Election 2008.
Mr Attah Obeng, Mpraeso Constituency Chairman of the Party, said NPP’s economic policies had brought untold hardship to Ghanaians and urged the electorate to vote the NDC into power to improve their living standards.
