The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority is cautioning politicians against breach of road safety regulations in the campaign season.
Officials say any recklessness that expose to danger the electorate whose mandate they are seeking must be avoided.
Over speeding, over-loading and use of unauthorized vehicles for party activities are common during election season.
DVLA officials fear such tendencies could increase the risk of accidents at the expense of live and property.
National Coordinator in charge of Compliance and Enforcement Unit, Joseph Clifford Obosu says politicians should adhere to road traffic regulations during electioneering campaigns.
“We are advising them that when they are going on rallies they should go according to the road traffic regulation so that the accident in the election years will be minimal”, he said.
DVLA is collaborating with the National Road Safety Commission and the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate to execute the task.
An operation in Kumasi on Tuesday saw motorists being arrested for fake and expired driver’s licenses as well as imitated reflectors.
Offenders were made to pay spot fines and buy the right road safety materials.
Ashanti Regional Senior Technical Engineer, Stephen Otoo, says the exercise will continue to ensure compliance with the law.
“Lots of the guys are using fake materials so this exercise can help correct these”, Mr. Otoo added.
