A well attended Easter durbar on Saturday brought together the chiefs and people of Abutia -Kissiflui and Abutia Kpogadzi, both in the Volta Region, for the first time in several decades.
The durbar marked the end of a protracted chieftaincy dispute between the two communities and paved way for rapid development of the communities which lacked basic social amenities.
The two communities have no health facility and depend on one borehole for drinking water with the road leading to the area unmotorable.
The durbar, christened, “Dekaworworza” -- Unity Festival, aimed to help raise funds for a kindergarten block and an Information Communication Technology (ICT) centre for the only basic school for the two communities.
Initial peace talks yielded in the reconstruction of the Abutia-Kissiflui market, which is the biggest market in the Ho-West District.
Mr Godson Anyrator, an Opinion Leader in an address underscored the importance of togetherness and said until the two communities were united, they could not address developmental challenges confronting them.
He commended the two chiefs for coming together and said the Festival marked the beginning of a new Kissiflui and Kpogadzi.
Mr Norbert Gonyi, a Community Elder and Chairman for the Festival charged the youth of the two communities to remain united.
He said the priorities of the communities were education and health and called for support from all stakeholders.
