THE Eastern Region has been selected to host this year’s national sports festival for public second cycle schools to be held in August. The Regional Schools’ Sports Federation, therefore, has appealed to all heads of second cycle schools who are indebted to the Federation by way of non-payment of sports fees to make good their indebtedness by March, this year. The chairman, Mr. Joseph Addo-Larbi, said as the host of the festival, the Association needs money for the organisation and therefore stressed the urgent need for the heads to release the money. He explained that, the sports fees which is part of governments’ subsidy to the schools is meant for sports development in the region and it is unjustified to withhold the money saying "we need funds to prepare adequately well for the festival, as well as general development. He said, the Federation intends to construct a mini sports complex and also encourage heads and physical education (PE) tutors to step up the teaching of PE in schools geared towards the promotion and development at the regional level.Mr. Addo-Larbi, who is also the headmaster of the Suhum Secondary Technical School said the Federation at its last meeting resolved that any head indebted to it by way of non-payment of sports fee will not be allowed to take part in any sports activity organised by the Federation in the region.
