The Electoral Commission is going ahead with a pilot voter registration across the country despite criticism by the country's biggest opposition party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The NPP says Saturday’s exercise in 20 constituencies across the country is not likely to fulfill the objectives set by the elections management body.
The “Pilot Limited Voter Registration Exercise”, according the EC, will enable it test its upgraded equipment ahead of the main limited registration exercise next month.
The registration is taking place in selected polling stations in all the 10 regions and will end at 4pm, Saturday.
However, the NPP says the 20 constituencies selected by the EC are not representative enough.

NPP’s Director of Elections Martin Adjei Mensah-Korsah, says the party also has a problem with the way the exercise is being conducted.
"The commission says it is not issuing cards out of this pilot registration, [but] we would have wished to have a print out of the pilot as its done all the time so that we can compare and see which names are missing," he said.
He said the NPP would have wished for at least five constituencies in every region at least.
“You [EC] have upgraded your equipment and you want to test its ability to withstand, you open up the process a bit more –[make it] a bit more bigger. You take the whole of Greater Accra – urban Accra – and you take only one centre, it doesn’t help” Mr Mensah Korsah mocked.
“These are some of the concerns we have raised but that notwithstanding we are going to be part of it,” he adds.
Meanwhile, Head of Public Affairs at the EC, Christian Owusu Parry, has urged the public to participate in the exercise.
