Electoral Commission (EC) has opened applications for the position of Returning or Deputy Returning Officers for the upcoming district level elections and referendum.
The EC in a press release said applications will be received at the District Offices of the Electoral Commission throughout the country from Friday, September 13 to Wednesday, September 18, 2019.
“All applications should be addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission. An applicant should state: i. the position applying for ii. the region and iii. the district,” the EC said in the release.
The minimum academic qualification for Returning or Deputy Returning Officer is first degree, the release stated.
“Experience in electoral work or working knowledge of Electoral Commission Operations and possession of means of transport will be an added advantage,” said the EC.
Closing date for the submission of application is Wednesday, September 18, 2019.
The EC will conduct district level elections for assembly members and a referendum on the election of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in December.
The Government in February 2019 laid the Bill to amend the Constitution to allow for the election of MMDCEs.
Timetable
Per a timetable released by the EC, the elections are scheduled to take place nationwide on November 26, 2019.
Activities for the elections are to commence on May 24 to June 2019, a period within which there will be the registration of new voters.
From September 22 to 26, there would be the transfer of votes, according to the timetable.
Nomination for Assemblyman elections is scheduled for August 25 to 30, while from October 7 to 8, the EC is expected to receive nomination form for Assembly Members.
According to the timetable, from October 9 to 10, the Commission is to receive Unit committee nomination forms and from November 21 to 25, it would hold an open forum dialogue with candidates at district levels.
