Electoral Commission officials who have been monitoring the pilot limited voter registration exercise across the country have expressed satisfaction at the conduct of Saturday’s process.

However, some political parties who took part in the process expressed some reservations. Observers from some of the political parties raised questions about the location selected by the EC for the exercise.

The time it took voters to get registered with EC’s new biometric machines was also criticized as too lengthy.

Before the exercise started on Saturday morning the NPP had raised concerns regarding the the 20 constituencies selected by the EC. The NPP holds that the number of constituencies selected was not representative enough.

The registration took place in selected polling stations in all the 10 regions across the country, and the EC hopes the process will test its upgraded biometric equipment ahead of the main Limited Registration Exercise in April.

In the Ashanti Region, some residents in Kumasi challenged the system for multiple registrations.

There were two pilot polling stations, the Asokore Mampong and Ejisu Achiase.

In Asokore Mampong, Luv FM’s Prince Appiah, reports that a resident attempted to go through the process twice in to see if the biometric machine will identify that he has already registered. He could not beat the system to vote twice.

In the Upper West Region, Joy News' Rafiq Salam reports that some 130 people took part in the pilot exercise.

Although there were no challenges recorded in the use of the biometric machine devices in the region, prospective voters complained of the slow pace of the exercise.
