The Electricity Company of Ghana has taken delivery of thirteen (13) mobile sub-stations which will provide power to customers for emergency purposes until full power is restored.
Management of ECG says the mobile sub-station will help reduce outage hours customers experience whenever there is a major fault at any sub-station.
The 13 sub-stations have been distributed to all the regions nationwide.
Briefing newsmen at the Tema warehouse of ECG where the biggest of the mobile sub-stations is parked, Director of Engineering at ECG Julius Kpekpena said the acquisition of the equipment is part of efforts of ECG to improve the quality of service delivery in the country.
Each of the smaller mobile sub-stations cost $80,000 while the large one cost $1.8 million including freight and handling charges.
The Electricity Company of Ghana says it is investing heavily in expansion works to improve the quality of service to consumers.
To this extend, six eleven kilowatts sub-stations estimated at $12 million are being put up to improve power supply to communities.
A third bulk supply station is also being put up at Agyirigano near Madina to supply power to consumers around Spintex, Madina, East Legon and surrounding areas.
The BSP which is estimated at $10 million will compliment those at Achimota and Mallam.
Speaking to the media after a tour to the Kwabenya sub-station and the Agyirigano Bulk Supply Point projects, Director Engineering at ECG, Julius Kpekpena said the projects are expected to be complete and become operational by December this year.
