President John Dramani Mahama has sacked former Managing Director, of the Electricity of Ghana Rev. Ing. William Hutton-Mensah, from office.
A statement signed by the Chief of Staff, Prosper Bani said Robert Dwamena will be acting in that capacity.
The decision comes in a wake of an intense load shedding exercise across the country which has left households, companies go off several days without electricity.
Some angry residents in Accra and Kumasi have only recently vented their anger at the ECG. They blocked roads and threatened to beat up ECG officials.
It is not clear whether or not the President's appointment is in reaction to the persistent power cuts.
According to the statement, Rev Ing. William Hutton-Mensah, who is on his annual leave, is to report to the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum for reassignment.
Meanwhile, Mr. Dwamena, who until his appointment as the Director of Procurements at the ECG, started his career with the Engineering Directorate of the Company in 1982.
President Mahama has also asked the Omanhene of Abeadze and President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, to act as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ECG.
His appointment follows the resignation of Tony Oteng Gyasi on health grounds.
