The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) may very well be one of the most dangerous organisations to work for at the moment, as consumers’ anger reach a boiling point after months of inconsistent power supply and load shedding.  

Speaking to Joy News, Acting General Manager of the Ashanti East ECG, Emmanuel Akine explained that a mob, yesterday evening, attacked an installation at Nsuta, near Mampong during which they assaulted a security man and damaged a chair.

He indicated that the matter had been reported to the police service and that the police had already begun investigations to determine the identities of the culprits.

Mr. Akine informed Joy News that a fresh attack occurred Friday Morning, this time focusing on a bonded cashier, who luckily escaped unharmed.

He indicated that equipment at the station was not damaged in either attack.

This morning’s attack, he says has also been reported to the police and a request has been made to the police for security detail to protect the staff and equipment.

In a related development, residents of Aboabo have indicated their intent to attack the ECG installation there. The residents say they do not understand why areas such as Dechemso and Manhyia enjoy about seventy-two hours of electricity as compared to their six.

The angry consumers threatened to hold a massive demonstration on Saturday 22^nd November, and warned that they would destroy equipment at the installation so they finally have a reason for not having electricity.

The chaos in Kumasi followed a similar one in Accra as residents of Tabora and Odorkor blocked roads and vandalised property in protest of a power outage which they say had lasted three days.
