The Asante-Akim South District Directorate of Education, has threatened to close down two schools at Dwendwenase near Banso if persistent defecation in the classrooms did not stop.
For six months running, the pupils and teachers of the D/A primary and junior high school (JHS) had lived with the nuisance.
The head teacher incidentally is the chief of the community.
Mr Appiah Kusi, the Circuit Supervisor told a meeting with the people that the teachers and pupils had had enough of the nauseating and disgraceful act.
The situation where they were forced to hold classes in the open after the unpleasant duty of cleaning up the mess could not be accommodated any longer.
The education directorate would have no option than to shut the schools down if the practice continued.
He said it was disheartening for schools to be targeted for such dehumanizing acts by people from the same community.
As major stakeholders, Mr. Kusi asked the community to team up with the school authorities to tackle the unhealthy situation.
He asked the people to have the courage to expose those doing that.
Nana Owusu Akyem Tenten, the head teacher and chief of the community, said what was happening had brought shame to the people and vowed to deal ruthlessly with the offenders when caught.
