The Minister of Education, Science and Sports, Papa Owusu Ankomah has toured some examination centres at Nkoranza to acquaint himself with the conduct of the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE). He was accompanied by his Deputy, Mr Kwame Amporfo-Twumasi, who is also MP for Nkoranza South. Mr Kwabena Agyeman-Badu, Nkoranza District Director of Education led them to the centres at the Nkoranza Secondary Technical School and Nkoranza Central L/A JSS where they visited the classrooms as the candidates wrote the papers one and two of the English examination. The District Director disclosed that a total of 1,374 registered candidates, made up of 796 boys and 578 girls from 48 junior secondary schools in the District were expected to write the examinations. Five centres have been created for the conduct of the examinations at Akuma L/A JSS, Nkoranza Central L/A JSS, Nkoranza Sec. Tech, Busunya Senior Secondary School and Yefri JSS. Papa Ankomah and his team later paid a courtesy call on the Omanhene of Nkoranza Traditional Area, Okatakyie Agyeman Kudom IV at his palace and commended the chief for being supportive of education in his area. He expressed the government's appreciation for the efforts of traditional authorities in the governance of the country, noting that before the introduction of politics, chiefs played their respective roles as custodians of the land. The Omanhene thanked the Minister for the visit, which he said was a great source of encouragement and support for teachers in the area. Okatakyie Agyeman lauded the Minister's cordial working relationship with his deputy, Mr Ampofo-Twumasi, who is a citizen of the area and urged him to maintain the relationship for the promotion of education in the country.
