The Ejura-Sekyedumase District of the Ashanti Region recorded zero maternal deaths during the first half of this year, Mr Jacob Amoah, the District Health Director, has announced.
This according to him, had been the reward for the intense education to pregnant women to regularly visit the hospitals.
Addressing the first half of the year performance review meeting at Ejura, Mr Amoah stated that the achievement must not make the health professionals complacent but rather it should invigorate them to sustain the good job they were doing.
He called for the campaign to be intensified to fight malaria, which continues to top cases seen at hospitals and clinics.
Between January and June, 12,486 cases were reported, compared with last year’s same period figure of 11,072 cases.
Mr Amoah appealed to the District Assembly to complete the walling of the Ejura District Hospital to stop the nuisance of stray animals and the use of the facility as a thoroughfare.
Dr Eliza Mildred, the Medical Superintendent, expressed concern about the situation where some sick lactating Muslim mothers refused to take their medication because of the Ramadan.
This, she said, was not good for their health and that of their babies.
