The Lead Counsel of President Akufo-Addo in the election petition, Akoto Ampaw has described as scandalous the witness statement of the 2020 Presidential Candidate of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama.
This comes after the NDC’s General-Secretary, Johnson Asiedu in his witness statement alleged that the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa was biased in the execution of her role relating to the December 7, elections.
He claims Jean Mensa’s partiality toward President Akufo-Addo stems from her “close familial relationship” with the wife of the second respondent, Rebecca Akufo-Addo.
But objecting to this and some other allegation raised by the petitioner’s witness on Friday, Lawyer Akoto Ampaw noted that the accusations are very serious and cannot be supported in Mr Mahama’s pleadings.
He, therefore, prayed the Supreme Court Justices to “espouse paragraph 26 (of the witness statement) as scandalous and prejudicial and not based on the pleadings.”
On his part, the Lead Counsel of the petitioner, Tsatsu Tsikata insisted that allegations of bias by Madam Mensa is not a conjecture and must be maintained.
Mr Nketia took the stand today to testify as a witness for the Petitioner, Mr John Mahama.
He was cross examined by the legal representatives of the 1st Respondent, the Electoral Commission and the 2nd Respondent, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
