After successfully staging two Grand Prix Meets in succession at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Essipong Stadium seems to be the likeliest destination to stage the 3rd edition of the event come next year.
Kumasi, a hotbed for athletics over the years especially at the Senior High School Level has proved to be solid hosts by getting in the crowds to cheer the athletes on but the organizers who have done their bit into raising the profile of the sport say they want to spread their tentacles for other parts of the Nation to enjoy these games.
It is in this regard that the organizers of the meet are seriously considering the Essipong Sports Stadium due to its location and scenery for an event of this magnitude.
This revelation was made by Francis Arthur, a leading Organizer of the Grand Prix whose company Event.PR handles the organisation of the meet.
It was further corroborated by a leading Presidential Aide, Mr Stanislav Xoese Dogbe also a leading organizer for this event.
“We want to look beyond Kumasi not because we have not been welcomed or that the tracks are not good enough.
We want the entire nation to have a feel of this event going forward and add a bit of freshness to the event. The people of Kumasi have massively supported our efforts but we only want to add some spark and flavour to the event.”
He further added that plans are also advanced to bring in top notch athletes to spice up the games.
“We have tried to spice up the games and competitive edge of the athletes by bringing in some lads from the United States and all but after two years organizing this event, we are looking at the possibility in bringing in some of the biggest names next year their schedules permitting.”
The Baba Yara Sports Stadium successfully hosted the 2nd Edition of the Ghana International Grand Prix which ended yesterday.
