Former President John Agyekum Kufuor arrived in Accra on Saturday after a two-week visit to the United States and Germany. Mr Kufuor attended two separate high-level meetings on Reform of the World Bank and Improvement in Land Administration in Africa.
A press release issued by the office of the former president and signed by the spokesperson, Mr Frank Agyekum, said in Washington DC, former President Kufuor attended the first meeting of the 12-member high level commission set up by the World Bank earlier this year for the modernization of the Bank.
The Commission was set up by the World Bank earlier this year for the Modernization of the Bank. The Commission, which report to the World Bank President Robert Zoellick, is charged with making recommendation on how the Bank is governed so that it can better fulfil its mission of overcoming global poverty.
It is chaired by former Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo, and includes Mrs. Sadata Ogata, President of Japanese International Co-operation Agency (JICA) and former UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Dr.Zhou Xiaochuan, governor of the Peoples Bank of China and Mr. Paschal Lamay, Director General of the World Trade Organization (WATO).
From the US, former President Kufuor attended the 2009 African Presidential Round Table which focused on "Leadership Challenges on Land Reform in Africa", in Berlin, German. The forum organized by the African Presidential Archives and Research Centre at Boston University, USA, is an initiative for former democratically elected leaders of Africa to share their ideas and experiences with a global audience. The Former President expressed satisfaction at the outcome of both meetings.
