The 2014/2015 MTN FA Cup is gradually heading to its end. The Cup is now in the semi-final stage with the three of the four teams having being previous winners. Defending champions Kumasi Asante Kotoko will face Aduana Stars at the Sunyani Coronation Park on Friday July 10, 2015 in the first semi-final encounter.
Kotoko’s run to the last four began with relative ease; seeing off Paga Crocodile and Birim DC in the Round of 64 and 32 respectively in big scorelines. They beat Crocodile 4-0 and then finished Birim 5-2.
Their superb goal scoring ability became deficient in the round of 16 when they met Real Tamale United. Kotoko could only manage a 1-0 win over RTU. The quarter-final clash with one time winner and league leaders Ashanti Gold was expected to be an easy breeze for the latter as Kotoko had produced some abysmal performances in the league earlier on.
However, Kotoko showed strive to beat AshGold 2-0 to triumph to the semi-finals leaving the league leaders in despair. They head into the semi-finals having scored 12 goals. Kotoko has been to the final three times in the last four editions of the FA Cup but have been victorious on only one (last year).
Aduana Stars on the hand have not step over their opponents to get to this stage. They came out of their matches by clean shaves and this shows that they indeed have a strong will to fight for victory. In the Round of 64, they battled Wa All Stars and came out closely in a five goal thriller with Aduana shining brighter with three goals.
The Dormaa's side's next match was even tougher. Their game against Susubiribi ended in a 1-1 draw in regulation time. The game went into penalty kicks which Aduana won.
There was reprieve in the Round of 16 when they thumped Istanbul FC 3-0 to make it to the quarterfinals. A very determined Sekondi Eleven Wise gave the Stars yet another tough game but the Stars came out winners by three goals to two just like in the Wa game.
The semifinal clash in Sunyani will be a battle between Kotoko’s goal scoring might against Aduana’s very impeccable resolve to fight hard till the end of the game to get a good result.
