Buckman, who pleaded not guilty and was granted GH¢ 4,000 bail with one surety, allegedly collected the monies with the pretext of securing a Ghana Police Service Training School admission for the son of one Ms. Efua Twumwaa, the complainant.
He will be re-arraigned on Thursday, July 31.
Inspector Charles Effah who prosecuted, told the court presided over by Ms. Mercy Addai Kotei, that the trader, Ms. Efua Twumwaa lives at Pedu in Cape Coast, whilst Buckman stays at Mankessim.
He said in July 2012, one Wofa Yaw who is now at large, collected GH¢ 6,000 from Ms. Twumwaa and claimed his wife who was an ASP stationed at Kasoa could secure an admission for his son.
The prosecution said Wofa Yaw later introduced Buckman to Ms. Twumwaa as his wife, and gave the bank account number of Ms. Twumwaa to Buckman.
A total of GH¢ 2,900 was then paid into that account, but after collecting the money, both Buckman and Wofa Yaw failed to honour their promise and went into hiding.
Ms. Twumwaa made a complaint to the police and the accused persons were arrested from their hide-outs.
