Following the resignation of Executive Chairman, Dr. K. K. Sarpong and all the commentaries that have dominated the airwaves across the country, Kotoko supporters are patiently looking forward to communication from the Manhyia Palace regarding the leadership of the club.
Dr. Sarpong gave indications of quitting the Kotoko top post last week Friday barely 24hours after visiting the Manhyia Palace with the team to present trophies won this season to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Dr. Sarpong’s resignation was thus seen as a big surprise. Earlier this week, International Relations Manager, Kwame Baah-Nuakoh confirmed in radio interviews that the Chairman’s resignation letter has been delivered at the revered palace.
“Dr. K. K. Sarpong’s resignation letter has been sent to Manhyia. I know that, before that, discussions had gone on between himself and other people who could deliver other messages.
As custom demands, he has followed tradition to pass on the message to Manhyia and of course you will also need to follow up it formally with a letter. I have been informed that the letter has been delivered this morning” Kwame said on Asempa FM earlier this week.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is Life Patron of the club. As the respectable figure who appointed Dr. Sarpong, the occupant of the Golden Stool remains the only person whose pronouncements will offer directions on what happens next.
Speculation has been rife on when the Great King will come out on developments in the club with practically every media house, especially radio stations in Accra and Kumasi broadcasting their own version concerning the time the Manhyia Palace will say anything.
Asantekotokosc.com cannot say anything definitive except to convey the feelings of the teeming supporters of the club many of who are patiently waiting for Otumfuo’s directives. A number of the fans who have been calling asantekotokosc.com’s office have been extremely concerned over events in the last few days.
The good thing is that they are confident that regardless of the path things appear to have taken, the Owner and Life Patron of Kotoko as usual will provide the needed respite when anytime he comes out.
For the records, Dr. K. K. Sarpong has been at the helm of affairs for three years seeing to some notable developments including two Premier League triumphs, massive sponsorship deals and major infrastructural projects.
He was appointed in May 2010; taking over from the Alhaji Njee-led interim body which succeeded Sylvester Asare Owusu’s five-member management team.
