The Akim Oda Magistrates' Court, has sentenced Charles Kwabena, a farmer, to 18 months imprisonment, in hard labour, for stealing GH¢180 from the pocket of a blind man.
Kwabena pleaded guilty to stealing.
Chief Inspector Adeliade Appiakorang, told the court, presided over by Mr Albert Owusu Annor that, the complainant is a 79-year-old blind man and lives in the same vicinity with Kwabena at Akim Ayirebi.
She said on May 2, this year, the complainant, Mr Osei Bonsu left his room to have his bath and when he returned, he detected that an amount of GH¢180 in his trouser pocket had disappeared.
Mr Bonsu confronted his errand boy, who told him that he met Kwabena at the entrance of the room on his return from town.
Chief Inspector Appiakorang said the following day, just when Mr Bonsu and the tenants of the house were trying to conduct their own investigations, the convict's wife approached them and handed over GH¢ 60 to Mr Bonsu, saying that, her husband was spending extravagantly and suspects him for the theft.
Kwabena was then handed over to the police and charged before the court.Source: GNA
