The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in the Western Region has said it will slap a two thousand five hundred cedis (GHC2,500) fine on Oprehesco Enterprise for importing expired milk into the country.FDA’s Officer in the region, Solomon Agampim said the Authority with the assistance of the Custom Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority impounded a 40 footer container at the Takoradi Port which contained the expired milk on the 15th of March, 2013.The imported milk, 'Aro Volle Melk', labelled in Dutch was imported from The Netherlands by Oprehesco Enterprise and one Gregory Affum Prempeh.Mr. Agampim told Joy News the authority realized after its investigations that the milk, "Aro Volle Melk" did not meet the country’s labeling regulation and also has an expiry date of 31st march, 2013.He said "the labeling is not even in English, you don't know whether its dutch".He said the FDA has asked the importer to pay the fine for the destruction of the products or risk being dragged to court.
