The numerous goals off the boots of fierce rivals, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the year 2013 are considered not good as world football governing body FIFA on Monday released the 10 goals shortlisted for FIFA Puskás Award for the “best goal of the year”.
While the two superstars were conspicuously missing among the nominees, Sweden and PSG forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic as well as Brazilian prodigy Neymar made the final shortlist.
National pride
Both players were picked for goals scored for their national teams not their respective club sides.
The FIFA Puskás Award, created in honour and in memory of Ferenc Puskás, the captain and star of the Hungarian national team during the 1950s, will be presented for the fifth year in a row at the FIFA Ballon d’Or 2013, which will be held at the Kongresshaus in Zurich.
