President J.E.A Mills has given a firm assurance that the fight against armed robbery and other social vices in the country will continue unabated.“My administration will not be complacent about the successes chalked up in stemming the tide against armed robbery and other social vices in the country,” he added.The President, who gave the assurance when he presented 156 vehicles to the security services, said these “successes will rather propel us to work harder to ensure the security and safety of our people”.He expressed the government’s satisfaction with the combined police/military patrol teams, which he said had significantly reduced armed robbery and other forms of crime.President Mills indicated that the government, aware of the challenges confronting the security agencies, put in place measures to ensure that the security of Ghanaians were secured in the first month of his administration.He said vehicles were crucial in combating crime, but noted that besides the vehicles, the government would support the security services with logistics and higher remuneration.President Mills said within one year of his administration, security had improved, making it easy for people to go about their legitimate duty, adding that, “you are the judges to see whether or not we have done our bit”.He admonished the security services to take good care of the vehicles and use them for their intended purposes and noted, “if their track records are something to go by, then I’m delighted that they have a record maintaining security of the country.”The deputy Minister for Interior, Dr Kwasi A. Apea-Kubi, who received the vehicles on behalf of the security agencies, thanked the President for the gesture.He said since the President took office, internal security had been a major concern to him and he had lived up to his word by resourcing the security agencies, and assured him that the vehicles would be maintained.
