Minority Leader of Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu has advised the Minister of Finance to be honest about the true state of the Ghanaian economy in today's budget statement.
Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta on October 28, will present to Parliament the 2021 first-quarter budget statement per the Public Financial Management Act.
According to Mr Haruna Iddrisu, the economy is in a bad shape, adding, the Finance Minister will associate the "excessive spending" by the government to Covid-19 pandemic in his address.
"The NDC will be inheriting a very fractured fragile economy and my expectation is for the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta to be candid with the Ghanaian people.
Mr Ofori-Atta's presentation will be followed by the approval of the expected budget expenditure for the first quarter of 2021 by Parliament.
The Minority Leader mentioned that this may probably be the last appearance of the Finance Minister in Parliament as the NDC administration prepares its way to come to power in January.
"We look forward to the Minister of Finance appearing before Parliament, arguably and probably for his last time and opportunity to present a mini budget.
"We expect that Ken Ofori-Atta will come candid with numbers. The deficit we are reading is less or minus the huge expenditure in the banking sector clean-up.
"He must come clear with the compiling arrears in the name of discipline," he stated.
Mr Iddrisu stated that the "bad shape of Ghana's economy" can only be salvaged by the next NDC Mahama-led administration.
"Former President John Mahama has promised to transform the troubled economy to a resilient kind," he indicated.
