FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital has been granted full accreditation by the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS), to run a residency programme in anaesthesia beginning with the 2016/2017 academic year.
The 50-bed Specialist hospital was granted full accreditation by the Board of the GCPS upon satisfactory inspection of its facilities and current standards of operation.
As part of the accreditation, the Board granted a full accreditation for five years for Fellowship Rotation in Intensive Care, Anaesthesia for Orthopaedic Surgery and Pain and Regional Anaesthesia up to a maximum of four Senior Residents per year beginning the 2016/2017 Academic year.
Commenting on the accreditation was Chief of Anaesthesia, Dr. Irene Adorkor Wulff who said, “We are committed to capacity building in the specialty of anaesthesia to improve the perioperative care of patients requiring surgery in this country and indeed on the continent.
Training in the different subspecialties is fundamental for the management of complex cases requiring critical care in the perioperative period.”
In addition, the Board granted FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital, a three –year partial accreditation to train Residents undergoing their six-month District Rotation in Orthopaedic Surgery.
Residents will benefit from quality training under the tutelage of internationally acclaimed Orthopaedic health experts.
This was received with great enthusiasm by the Associate Medical Director, Dr. Joseph Ogyaadu who led the team. FOCOS stands to aid in professional development of orthopedists in the country, recognizing the dismal rating of one orthopedic specialist to a million citizens in the country.
FOCOS Hospital, located at Pantang, is a subsidiary of the Foundation of Orthopaedics and Complex Spine (FOCOS), a non-profit organization established in 1998 by Dr. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei and as an auxiliary of the foundation.
The hospital is equipped with ultra-modern facilities and has been adjudged as one of the best Orthopaedic Hospitals in Africa, a center of Excellence, by several organizations.
With some of the best medical practitioners in the world, the hospital specializes in Clubfoot, Complex Spine Deformities, Joint Replacement, Research & Education as well as other degenerative spine illnesses.
