Former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Kwadwo Adjei-Darko has cautioned government against borrowing and holding bilateral talks with foreign groups in order to initiate policies to wrestle the unemployment situation in the country. Mr. Adjei-Darko President accused President Mills of failing to come out with a single policy in his third term in office, after serving as a Vice President. He said on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Monday that the government under President Mills has already lost direction in shaping the so-called Better Ghana Agenda. Kwadwo Adjei-Darko stated that the unemployment situation in the country has increased because the government has failed to initiate development policies. The former minister under the erstwhile Kufuor administration criticized the government for refusing to praise the NPP government for instituting policies which created good economic conditions for the banking sector to thrive. He noted that under the NPP government there was a sharp increase in the number of banking institutions in the country. He mentioned that former President Kufuor initiated policies like National Youth Employment Programme, National Health Insurance Scheme, School Feeding Programme and the Capitation Grants as part of efforts to help the country to move in the right direction. However, in a sharp reaction, the Communications Director at the Presidency, Koku Anyidoho said the president’s critics have failed to acknowledge the works and projects commissioned under the current administration. Mr. Anyidoho condemned the practice where politicians find it difficult to praise their opponents especially when they are achieving much. Mr. Koku Anyidoho stated for instance that the Mills’ government has initiated a major policy to fight cocaine and illicit drugs trade at the major border points of the country. This includes the president’s decision to subject himself and government officials to strict body checks at the airports. He added that the government has issued a policy to turn schools under trees into brick and block buildings.
