Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has pledged his support for government’s ambitious development projects.
He said he will put his ideas gleaned from his years as Premier at the disposal of government to realise its intentions.
Mr Blair made these remarks after a closed door meeting with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Flagstaff House Tuesday.
The former UK Premier is in the country as a guest of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) to share his experience with government officials.
Mr Blair served as the Prime Minister from 1997 to 2007 as well as leader of the Labour Party from 1994 to 2007. He is currently helping eight countries in Africa deliver on the priorities to their people.
Mr Blair explained he does this in a “completely” non-partisan and non-political way to bring prosperity to the citizens of the continent.
He said he is trying to tap into the experiences in his “time in office" so that he can help countries in their process of changing development.”
He congratulated the President on his election and for the vision he has for the development of the country.
“You come up at a time of great expectation...you’ve assumed great responsibility,” he said, adding anyone who meets the President will realise he has the interest of the nation at heart.
President Akufo-Addo thanked Mr Blair for the interest shown towards the development of the country.
“He came to us when he was Prime Minister over ten years [and] he’s back again as a former Prime Minister,” the President said.
