The Bibiani magistrates’ court presided over by Mr Dickson Dakatsey, has remanded four suspected armed robbers into custody for allegedly robbing at gun-point.
The four, Gariba Awudu 38, Issaka Bardey 19, Abudul Karim 24 and Mohammed Issah 29 blocked the Goaso-Bibiani road and robbed travellers at gun point and made away with about GH¢1,600 and other items.
Their pleas were not taken and will reappear on 12th October this year.
Briefing the court, Detective Chief Inspector Alex Mensah, said on April 13 this year, at about 1830 hours, the four suspects who reside in Kumasi blocked the road and laid ambush near the Sahoma mountains.
They then attacked vehicles, which stopped at the road block by ordering the passengers to surrender their monies, mobile phones and other valuable items.
He said information was sent to the Bibiani police and a joint police/military patrol team was sent to the scene, but the robbers had then bolted with their booty.
Detective Chief Inspector Mensah said upon a tip-off, the team arrested Gariba and Bardey at a hideout at Bibiani and when a search was conducted on them, GH¢1,000 and 9,000 CFA were found on them.
He said during interrogation the two suspects admitted being part of the gang and led the police to Kumasi where Karim and Mohammed were also arrested.
The prosecutor said during an identification parade, some of the victims identified the suspects, after which they were charged and put before the court.
