French newspaper Le Telegramme has apologized after publishing false story saying Jordan Ayew had signed for Borussia Dortmund.
Reports emanated last week that the Ghana international is on his way to the German Bundesliga side - forcing his club Lorient to dismiss those claims - stating that the 23-year-old is not for sale.
However, after reporting Jordan, who has also been linked to Lille, had joined the Bundesliga outfit, Le Telegramme withdrew the article and issued an apology.
"After investigation and after talking to the Internet site and the club, it has been confirmed that it was a fake, the kind of fake that sometimes circulates on social media during the transfer window," a statement read. "Our sincere apologies to the player, the club and the website."
Jordan signed a four-year contract with Lorient only last summer, but admitted last week in Sports Bild he would welcome a move to BVB, who reportedly see the former Marseille man as a potential replacement for Ciro Immobile.
