The latest Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has predicted that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by President Nana Akufo-Addo will retain power come the 2020 polls.
“Our forecast that the 2020 polls are the NDC's to lose remains unchanged,” parts of the report reads.
Using Ghana’s improved macroeconomy as its lenses into the 2020 elections, the EIU says “it will be difficult for the NDC under Mr Mahama to portray itself as the better custodian of Ghana's economy.”
Also, the Unit has predicted that the Akufo-Addo government is not likely to fulfil its pledge to establish 181 factories under the One District, One Factory (1D1F) initiative by the end of this year.
The forecasters explain that Ghana’s regional imbalances coupled with broader issues of a poorly trained workforce and weaknesses in the business environment are among the reasons the 1D1F target for this year will be missed.
