Aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Miracles Aboagye, has accused the Mahama administration of presiding over a worsening illegal mining crisis.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, August 16, he argued that despite repeated promises, the government has failed to halt the destruction of Ghana’s environment.
According to him, the situation has deteriorated significantly in recent years, with water bodies and farmlands bearing the brunt of the devastation.
“Galamsey has escalated under the Mahama administration, and that is a reality we cannot deny,” he stressed.
Mr Aboagye criticised the government for lacking a coherent strategy to combat the menace, noting that its approach had been marked by inconsistency and political expediency.

He maintained that half-hearted enforcement of laws had emboldened illegal miners and eroded public trust.
He urged the administration to demonstrate real political will by taking bold steps to address the problem.
“The country deserves action, not rhetoric. Without strong and decisive leadership, the damage being caused by galamsey will be irreversible,” he cautioned.
