The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has condemned incidents of post-election violence that have marred the aftermath of Ghana’s 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The Association decried reports of violent attacks, gunfire, and the destruction of properties, which have resulted in tragic loss of life.
“These unwarranted deaths are a tragic reminder of the importance of peace during this critical period,” the GBA stated, extending its condolences to the bereaved families.
In its statement, the GBA made a passionate appeal to all Ghanaians to preserve the unity and peaceful coexistence that have long defined the nation, urging tolerance even amidst divergent views and opinions.
The Association also called for an immediate end to all forms of lawlessness, including reports of property destruction and unauthorised attempts to take over offices.
“We appeal for calm and restraint as the nation transitions to a new administration,” the GBA urged.
To address these incidents, the GBA urged security and law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and decisively.
“All cases of infringement brought to their attention must be handled with dispatch,” the statement emphasised, stressing the importance of accountability and justice.
As Ghana navigates this post-election period, the GBA reaffirmed its hope for a peaceful and united nation.
“May Ghana continue to be the bastion of democracy within Africa and beyond, and may our nation become greater and stronger,” the statement concluded.
