Concerns have been raised about the effective management of record labels being established by some Ghanaian churches.
Although a lot of people have lauded the move to have a system that handles the business of music in churches, some have also pointed out things that could hinder the progress of record labels established by the Christian community.
Speaking on Showbiz A-Z on Joy FM, gospel music presenter OB Nartey told host Kwame Dadzie that it is important for the churches to employ people with the know-how to run the labels.
“It is not necessarily about setting up record labels but it is about getting the right people to manage these record labels. It is important to know that it won’t be for the pride of it that we will say ‘we need a record label.’ We’ve moved from the first step. Now the second step is getting the right people to handle these record labels so that we can get the maximum impact,” he told host Kwame Dadzie.
He added that churches owning record labels will help to control the type of songs that come out from the gospel artistes.
About a week ago, the Christ Temple of the International Central Gospel Church launched a record label together with a music project by the CT Choir.
Other churches that have record labels are The Maker’s House Chapel International, the Keeper’s House Chapel International and the Harvest Chapel International.
Some churches in other countries have led the pack with their own record labels. Christ Embassy in Nigeria has the Love World Records which has on its label, artistes such as Ada, Sinach, Frank Edwards, Buchi, among others.
Elevation Music is owned by Elevation Church in United States of America. The HillSong Church in Australia also has the HillSong Music label.
