Executive committee member of the Ghana Football Association George Afriyie has described the Local Black Stars failure to qualify for the 2016 CHAN tournament as unfortunate.
The Home-Based Stars lost 1-0 to Ivory Coast in the final round second leg qualifier on Friday in Abidjan.
Ghana went into the game with a 2-1 first leg win but Davy Koffi Boua's 35th minute goal saw the Ivorians sail through on the away goal rule.
This is the first time Ghana will miss out of the tournament since its inception in 2009 when the team won silver.
Afriyie who doubles as an emergency committee member of the GFA says not being at the tournament for a 4th time is regrettable.
“It is just unfortunate but in the game of football sometimes you win some and lose some and this is one of the games you don’t expect to lose,” he told Joy Sports
“I think it is a wakeup call for us, we need to look at how we prepare and plan but in the game of football it is not every time you can win.
“We just have to reorganise ourselves and see the way forward because there are other competitions ahead of us.”
Ghana placed second to Libya and won silver at the last edition of the tournament in South Africa 2014.
