President John Mahama has assured the nation there is no cause for anybody to live in fear in the country.At a meeting with security chiefs at the Flagstaff House on Thursday, the president said the security chiefs were working assiduously to ensure peace, law and order across the country.Briefing the media on the details of the meeting, the Information and Media Relations Minister Mahama Ayariga reported the president as saying the security officials are in control of the security situation, despite some reports of armed attacks in parts of the country.Mahama’s meeting with the security chiefs comes at a time residents in Kumasi are living in fear of attacks from rampaging gun-men occasionally engage in sporadic street shooting, scarring residents.The residents have been subjected to two consecutive nights of attacks in which over 20 gun men in a rare show of audacity went round parts of the city shooting indiscriminately in the air.The residents say they are living in fear and have been forced to close from work earlier than usual in order not to be caught up in any shooting spree.Some MPs from the Ashanti Region have called on the president to involve the military in the fight against armed attacks in the region.But the Information Minister insists the security chiefs are in control of the situation.Ayariga maintained the situation is stable, people should feel safe and secured, adding, the security authorities have plans to increase their presence on the ground.He advised the media to be circumspect and accurate in their reportage in order not to fuel unnecessary tension in the area.Mahama Ayariga said the president had been briefed adequately by the security chiefs on the security situation in the Ashanti Region and the appropriate steps have been taken to bring the frequent armed attacks under control.
