The Nigerian Higher Commissioner to Ghana, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro says Ghana is a political heaven in Africa because of the political stability and peace that the country is enjoying.
He has therefore appealed to the government and people of Ghana not to do anything that would erase this perception that the international Community hold about the country.
Speaking to Journalists in Takoradi, last week, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro urged the electorate and the political leaders to embrace peace, law and order as the country prepares to hold its presidential and parliamentary elections later this year.
To him, since the attention of the International and African community would be focused on Ghana as she prepares for her Presidential and parliamentary elections, the onus lied on Ghanaians to prove beyond reasonable doubt that indeed, it is a home of political stability by holding an election devoid of pre-violence and post violence, as recorded in other countries.
He has also urged the political leadership of the country to put the interest of Ghana high on their agenda and avoid acts that tarnish the reputation of the country. Touching on the relationship between Ghana and Nigeria, H.E. Obanikoro told the media that the relationship between the two countries has been very cordial and beneficial to both countries.
The Nigerian High Commissioner further told the press that he was worried about the ‘419’ activities of some Nigerians domiciled in the country, which he noted, could negatively affect the relationship between the two countries.
According to him, the commission does not condone such criminal acts, and the Nigerians involved in such unscrupulous activities would be seriously dealt with according to Ghanaian laws.
He recounted how the Economic and Financial Crime Commission waged war against crime in Nigeria, which led to the arrest and prosecution of thousands of people involved in criminal activities. He expressed the hope that the security agencies in Ghana would do the same, to flush out suspected Nigerians who are engaged in similar crimes.
