Local processors of travel passports, Ghana Passport Service, says it has secured 5000 green booklets to process the travelling documents of anxious applicants.
It will therefore start clearing all the backlog of applications occasioned by the shortage of greenbooks from Monday.
Media reports suggested the Ghana Passport Service had not paid for previous deliveries by its suppliers, Buck Press, the company which supplies the booklets.
This resulted in the suppliers witholding supplies, creating a temporary shortage in green booklets and forcing the processors to suspend the processing of applications for passports.
The applicants expressed disappointment and frustration at the development and demanded an immediate resolution.
Director of the GPS, Eric Odoi-Anim told Joy News his outfit had to undertake some administrative measures to contain the backlog of applications after the stocks went low recently.
According to him, the said measures took some time and so they had to literally fall on some reserves to start the printing process in order to “strictly” address emergency travels like medical situations and official travels.
He assured the public that the situation will return to nomalcy very soon.
