Ghana has slipped four places in an international poll of inequality between men and women. The country has fallen from 77th to 81st place in the latest Gender Gap Index, managed by the Swiss-based World Economic Forum. The index, which is released annually, ranks global inequality between men and women in the areas of economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, political empowerment, and health and survival.According to Ellen Dzah of gender advocacy group ABANTU for Development, Ghana’s poor performance is part of a consistent downward trend.“You can see a general decline in Ghana’s side of the gender gap,” she said, citing what she said has been women’s low participation in politics.According to Ms. Dzah, the government already knows what needs to be done to improve the country’s rankings. While hailing government’s decision to increase budget for the women’s affair’s ministry she said a lot could be done to increase women’s participation in all sectors of the economy.Credit: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
