Business Development Ministry has met the Ghana Tech and Business Hubs (GTBH) to discuss ways to reshape and influence development through building a sustainable ecosystem.

The meeting was part of plans to announce the group’s desire to collaborate with the ministry to achieve its mandate.

Available studies have shown that most developed economies thrived on private sector growth and empowerment.

According to the minister, Mohammed Awal, records show that 12 million Ghanaians are employed, out of which 800,000 are in the public sector which means the private sector absorbs the majority.

It is therefore imperative to empower the private sector through setting out right policies coupled with the friendly and enabling environment for them to smoothly ride on.

In the face of this, it is often difficult for successive governments to track and deal with all the scattered individual players across the country.

The Ghana Tech and Business Hubs (GTBH) was therefore formed to bring together young and enterprising players in the ecosystem to facilitate engagement for the industry good.

GTBH network consists of hubs in Ghana, (generic innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem enablers across the country) who have come together to use shared ideas and resources to equip innovative individuals with the requisite skills.

It is also to develop and build capacity to grow local innovations and create jobs in the face of growing unemployment.

They seek to advocate for the right policies for an enabling entrepreneurial environment and help grow traction for their sustainable operations.

The group also leads the development of a cohesive and strengthened tech and business eco-system in Ghana.

Mr Awal says the government is committed to empower and provide the needed resources that will make the private sector flourish.

He reiterated that government is not in to compete with the private hubs but to collaborate with the private hubs to promote entrepreneurship.

The minister said he was excited that the hubs have come together under the GTBH initiative and encouraged members to integrate those yet to register with the association.
